Approach to Teaching

"I left the University of Birmingham in July 2010 with a first class degree in maths, with honours, and have been tutoring GCSE and A level students as my sole income ever since. In that time I have worked and had a lot of success with hundreds of students. My approach to teaching centres around being patient and ensuring that the student feels comfortable during the lesson - so many students over the years have told me that they struggle in class because their teacher moves through the content too quickly and/or they don't feel confident enough to ask for help when they need it. I've found that taking the proper time to go through each question and topic, in a calm and intelligible manner, and making it clear that no question the student might have is silly or undeserving of being answered, is essential to ensuring that they fully understand the content we're looking at. Finally, whilst every little bit of work certainly does help when it comes to maths, one hour of extra tuition a week by itself won't really make that much difference. But if you/your child is willing to put the work in outside of our lessons too, in your/their own time, then the progress made from just that one hour can be incredible :)"
