Approach to Teaching

"I am a fully qualified teacher with considerable experience of teaching Maths to secondary aged students. With my additional qualifications for teaching students with Dyslexia I have particularly enjoyed tutoring students on a 1 to 1 basis and feel confident in saying that I have enjoyed considerable success with students of all abilities. I hold a keen interest in Maths as a subject and have made continuing efforts to keep up to date with training needs as well as curriculum and syllabus changes. I have worked with most examination boards including OCR, AQA and Edexcel. I have been really enthusiastic and keen to improve my own skills and teaching methods and with this in mind I enrolled on a 12 month course (5 intensive days followed by one day per week) run by Wolverhampton University. This was an intensive post graduate course and involved sessions to refresh and improve both mathematical skills and pedagogy. In addition to this course I have also attended courses run by Edexcel & AQA relating to up dates and changes in GCSE maths. I continue to maintain my own mathematical skills by attending local evening classes and this gives me a genuine insight into the experience of the student in the busy secondary school classrooms."
