Approach to Teaching

"I am a qualified primary school teacher, currently taking a career break to look after my young son. Having attained a first class degree in architecture and a masters degree in town planning, I soon realised that my real passion was for teaching. I was awarded outstanding in my PGCE from Nottingham Trent University, in which I specialised in teaching mathematics. Since becoming a personal tutor, I have relished the opportunity to work with children on a 1-to-1 basis, helping children to make excellent progress in English and Maths and also facilitating success in 11+ entrance exams. I have taught across the Primary age range including, most recently, 2 years as a year 6 class teacher and school ICT coordinator. As a result, I have an excellent knowledge of requirements for end of KS2 SATs and am extremely comfortable teaching English and Maths up to Level 6. In the last three years I have successfully tutored 11+ candidates, supported children to improve progress in English and Maths and worked with tutees with Special Educational Needs and English as an Additional Language. My warm yet hardworking approach means that my pupils find my sessions enjoyable yet challenging. My ability to explain concepts clearly alongside my excellent subject knowledge allows me to provide an extremely high standard of tuition. Working on an individual basis allows meto assess the gaps in knowledge and learning styles of individual children, therefore providing sessions which are tailor made to my tutees needs and interests. I invariably find that confidence and enthusiasm built on a 1 to 1 basis transfers directly to the class room and children make excellent progress."
