Approach to Teaching

"I have over twenty-four years` experience within the Education Sector. For the past twelve years I have been a Primary School Teacher and taught children from Nursery to Year Six. During this time, I have worked as a Class Teacher, taught children individually and in small groups within schools and have been a Private Tutor to individual children to help them achieve their own personal learning potential. Throughout my teaching career I have always created a caring stable learning environment where all the children know they are a valued member of the class whatever their personal circumstances or learning abilities and can succeed and reach their full potential. I have experienced teaching children across a range of different ages and abilities within different Primary School settings. I particularly enjoy working with individual children and have now decided to concentrate on tutoring children full time on a one- to- one bases in Maths and English. I am still enthralled and challenged by how children develop and learn. I enjoy working with children and seeing them succeed, I have a positive attitude and a passion to assist and motivate struggling learners. I believe that providing equal opportunities to all children is at the heart of good educational practice. My approach to teaching is to ensure that the lessons are enjoyable for my learners. I involve the children I teach into their own personal learning process, guiding the child to the required knowledge or answer rather than telling them directly, this helps the child to understand better and retain the information. I build children`s confidence through positive praise and supportive feedback. Motivating young learners, I believe is essential and I plan lessons to incorporate each individual child`s learning style and set activities at an appropriate level for each child to help them progress and keep them excited and enthused in their own lifelong learning."
