Approach to Teaching

"I am a free lance tutor of Maths and Music, with Qualified Teacher Status and over three years' experience as a classroom music teacher in Newham, Cambridgeshire and Kuwait prior to a further four years up to the present teaching one-to-one private pupils and working as an instrumental musician, composer and arranger. As well as a strong background in classical and jazz music that stems from beginning as a child and playing in youth ensembles and university ensembles throughout my education, I have a degree in Music and Sound Recording and with it a good deal of training and industry experience in recording, audio engineering and all of the technical theory behind it, reinforcing and building upon all of the Mathematics I learnt up until sixth form. When I first qualified as a classroom teacher I enjoyed teaching large mixed ability classes aged 11-18 general musician ship and National Curriculum, GCSE, A-level and BTEC courses. Along side this I ran extra-curricular music technology, recording and instrumental groups for the more motivated pupils looking to gain practical experience to develop further their understanding and to make lasting recordings of which they could be proud. Since moving to one-to-one tuition I have now taught pupils as young as 5 years old saxophone and piano lessons, as well as working with individuals of all ages on music theory (largely in preparation for the Associated Board Grade 5 exam). I also teach academic subjects - primarily Maths, but also Sciences, English, French and Latin. My experience in the classroom, as well as more recent part-time work with NEETs in a Foundation Learning Centre where I taught Music Technology, Maths, English and Business, has fully familiarised me with the importance and demands of administrative work - record keeping; evidence gathering; assessment of and for learning, while working largely one-to-one and with smaller groups more recently has given me extra freedom to develop my teaching st"

Minimum 2 hour session length if outside of London Travel Zones + £10 towards additional travel costs and time.

Discounts

£5 per hour reduction for homeschool sessions during school hours. Lessons with 2 or more students simultaneously for only £10 extra per hour.
