Approach to Teaching

"I have an MA(Hons) in maths, a PGCE and MSc and many years` experience of tuition working with ages 7 to adult. Hence I am familiar with Edexcel, OCR, AQA and IB. I usually have a preliminary meeting which is free. This gives us a chance to meet, to identify why the tuition is required and to agree a way forward. In that way the first session has a focus and the work starts immediately. I enjoy tailoring the sessions and the material to suit the individual. I am able to do this because I am an independent tutor and am not hamstrung by a house-style imposed by an agency. Some students have worked with me for years, others just get in touch when they have a specific need. It is rare for a student to need more than one hour a week of tuition. I lectured in a tertiary college teaching A level maths and BTEC National applied statistics for three years. I also copy edit and proofread mathematical material for publishers like Pearson, OUP and CUP. In 2017 I copy edited and proofread material for most of the A level when there was a complete overhaul of the curriculum."
