Approach to Teaching

"I regard myself as a child centred teacher and through professional assessment and meetings with parents, my relationship with the children is always regarded as being a great strength. I have taught in schools in Luton and Dunstable, spending periods of time working with year groups from year 3 to year 8. Recently I have been working in a Dunstable Middle School as a Key Stage 3 teacher teaching mainly English, ICT and Maths, although I have taught all subjects in Key Stage 2 and 3 during my time there. I try to give pupils as much encouragement as possible to make progress and I differentiate work appropriately for their varying needs. I tell pupils that I look for 'can do' pupils and instil a culture of having a go and possibly making mistakes, rather than not trying. I spent a period of time as a headteacher in a Primary School in Hemel Hempstead, but a combination of work related stress and missing the contact of watching children make progress in my class, lead me to resign my post, work for a period as a supply teacher and eventually take up a full time class teacher role again."
