Approach to Teaching

"I am a Primary Level Mathematics tutor with a 1st Class Hons in Economics and Business. I studied my A-Levels at the Latymer Grammar school and gained 12 A*-B GCSEs – including A’s in Maths, Science and English. I have a natural love and understanding of mathematics and I am soon to begin my Diploma in Montessori Education. I have undertaken much self-learning in education, teaching and child psychology which enables me to assist and guide the learning of children up to 11 years old. I am supportive and encouraging; able to build confidence alongside an interest in mathematics by making my lessons engaging. I ensure I tailor my tutoring style and content of the lesson to match the ability level of the tutee; ensuring that an interest in mathematics is built and sustained. I have assisted the teaching of a Maths lesson at a primary school – working with children of different ability and interest levels; keeping their confidence levels high. I have also observed in a Montessori school – able to see the practical application of the Montessori Method with children up to 11 years of age. I have mentored fellow students during university in Mathematical and Accounting modules and I hold a valid DBS. For primary level children, confidence is key. Many children underperform in maths due to a lack of confidence in their ability. Therefore, I endeavour to raise the confidence in my tutees by providing engaging activities that are challenging yet appropriate to their level of ability; keeping them engaged and proud of their achievements in mathematics. I provide colourful, interesting worksheets which are differentiated and differ in progression level to suit each child, alongside educational games, quizzes and fun mathematical-related activities which build an overall love for mathematics. I create a relaxed environment and see my lessons as part of an overall support structure; constantly communicating with parents. I provide weekly progress reports to paren"
