Approach to Teaching

"I have over 15 years experience of teaching in colleges and private and international schools, including 7 years as a Head of Department. In particular, I have extensive experience of teaching Mathematics across all levels: from Numeracy to GCSE Mathematics to A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics. For International Students, please note that I have also taught IGCSE and IB Diploma Mathematics, and that I am an experienced IB Examiner for Diploma Mathematics. As a former full-time Mathematics Workshop Manager, Mathematics Tutor to undergraduate students and Statistical Consultant, I have supported hundreds of students in tutorials. And throughout, I have applied the principle that (regardless of the delivery technology) students perform at their best when their individual needs are diagnosed and understood. This gives each student a sense of value and the confidence of self-empowerment to take on new challenges and to raise their previously conceived performance levels. In general, I have produced a wide variety of learning resources (eg exercises, tests, puzzles and challenges) and interactive/electronic tools for the Teaching of Mathematics; including writing Mathematics questions for a commercial organization. During my teaching career, I have been a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, a Chartered Mathematician (CMath) of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, and a member of the Mathematics Association. I therefore look forward to working with you, and assisting you in achieving your target grades and successful examination performance in Mathematics."
