Approach to Teaching

"I am a 30 year old tutor who has graduated with a Maths. I tutor Maths and Physics at A Level, with my passion being in Mathematics. I can teach Pure Maths, Statistics and Mechanics I am available weekends, weekday mornings and weekday afternoons/evenings with the exception of Tuesday. I am open to negotiating my rate, particularly for sessions of 2 hours or more. I began tutoring as a way to earn money whilst at university but since graduating I have been tutoring professionally. I have tutored GCSE, A Level and university students, with my focus being on A Level. My approach to tutoring is question oriented; for maths in particular I feel this is the most effective way to improve confidence and proficiency with the subject. For A Level students independence is important, so I prefer to spend my first few sessions working through problems brought to me by the tutee and helping them that way. After that my sessions become more structured with me spending the lessons focusing on specific areas in which I can see they need improvement. I tend to set questions from many sources as variety is often an effective way to understand a topic and answer relevant questions competently in an exam. Towards exam time I shift my emphasis towards revision methods, exam techniques and past papers. I prefer having long study sessions (and am willing to negotiate fees in these cases) but structure the length of sessions and the spacing between sessions based on what I feel is effective for the student. Some benefit from longer, more intense sessions,"
