Approach to Teaching

"I am a competent, enthusiastic and outgoing student studying Maths at Bristol University. Not only do I enjoy the subject but, having started a Maths Club at the age of 16 with the aim of providing additional help to younger pupils, I am aware of common problems students may face. I can relate to pupils to whom the subject does not come naturally. And as I am still in education, I also experience first-hand how it feels to face a new problem and overcome it. This helps me relate to students and also help in finding ways to approach a problem, or to boost those with low confidence in their ability. I strive to push pupils to new levels and encourage a thirst for the subject which make both the teaching and learning experience more enjoyable and, in the long run, rewarding. Having achieved an A* in A Level Maths in one year, I then tutored an A-Level student alongside studying for my Further Maths A Levels, in which I also achieved an A*. The student I tutored over the course of 18 months, he improved from being predicted an E, to achieving an A at A-Level. In addition to this, I am a keen sportsman and musician and I hope similarities between tutor and tutee will benefit a relaxed and focused working environment."
