Approach to Teaching

"I graduated with a first class undergraduate degree in mathematics from the University of Sussex in 2007. From 2008 to 2012 I studied for my PhD at the University of Leeds and I am currently working on corrections to my PhD thesis. While working on my PhD at Leeds I was paid to tutor first year undergraduate students. I did this regularly, working both with small groups and in one-to-one sessions. I was also responsible for marking the work of over a hundred students. This experience, and the fact I took my own A-levels not too long ago, has given me a good insight into the sorts of problems students often have with the material in the A-level syllabus. As a tutor, I strongly encourage my students to develop an interest in, and enthusiasm for, the fundamental concepts of the subject. It is often the case that serious difficulties in learning a new area can be traced back to an earlier misunderstanding of a much simpler issue. As a tutor, I work with my students to uncover and resolve any such confusion."
