Approach to Teaching

"I started teaching in 1997, and have taught mainly GCSE and A-Level, but also infants, juniors, secondary, and University Level, including in primary schools, Derby University and the Open University. I am thus very experienced at teaching. I work usually either at the tutee's home or my own home, but sometimes at another agreed public venue. APPROACH TO TUTORING I mainly seek to fill in the gaps in students' knowledge, though I have also been the main Maths tutor for a home-schooled teenager. I thus use a combination of finding out what the student has been doing at school/college, offering further help in that if required, and working through topics that the student is weak on, or starting new topics. Each teaching session is aimed at the needs of the individual, thus helping them to overcome areas of difficulty and gain confidence. I have a range of books on the National Curriculum. I also help to work through specimen exam papers when required, to help the student to gain experience of what the exam will be like."
