Approach to Teaching

"I am a fully qualified mathematics teacher and experienced tutor, having working in both the state and private sectors and currently teaching at a nearby secondary school. I have a non-judgemental approach, that is centred around building the student's confidence and self-esteem and reducing a fear of failure. Additionally, I promote a culture of hard-work, grit and internal motivation needed to make maximum progress in maths. I initially identify understanding of 16 of the key mathematic ideas needed to succeed at GCSE and then develop a tailored programme from there. I like to use cutting edge teaching strategies from leading practitioners in the teaching industry, and particularly place a large emphasis on retrieval practice and spacing. These help students to not just learn but, importantly, REMEMBER more in the longer term. My online tuition sessions are interactive, adaptive and engaging. Online tuition allows me to instantly access the most appropriate resources from my diverse educational library to deliver consistently impactful lessons. Photos of all work are emailed instantly within minutes of the end of each session for pupils to have for revision and retrieval purposes. I am also trained in stress-management, and so can offer techniques to help sooth exam nerves and anxiety."
