Approach to Teaching

"I have recently returned to the UK after 16 years working in the Middle East, mostly at Dukhan English School in Qatar. This is an International School working in English, and fully implementing the UK National Curriculum. I am a widely experienced teacher with many years experience gained within a variety of schools and other educational settings. I have been a class teacher, and have had experience of a range of curriculum responsibilities including SEN, ICT and Mathematics. I have also been a Head of Department including management responsibilities and staff deployment. In my most recent post, for many years, I have focused on specialist Mathematics teaching developing a rapidly expanding Mathematics department, and taking a key role concerning KS3 planning, delivery and assessment. This has also included developing our Mathematics curriculum to meet the needs of a diverse and expanding student population; with a specific emphasis on teaching students for whom English is a second language. Within the department I have had experience of monitoring and improving the quality of teaching and learning, including implementing appropriate AFL practices."
