Approach to Teaching

"I have had considerable success in helping those of you with maths anxiety or learning differences including dyslexia and dyscalculia overcome their core problems. Often, teachers and parents are surprised with the progress and results. I also work very successfully with those whose main or favourite subject is far removed from maths. Some just can`t get hold of the symbols and processes but need to get a `C`. Some of these may get an A. Others feel frustrated by the way they are taught. Some of these have surprised themselves by their positive reaction to maths or even found an ability in it that their teachers have either not recognised or not known how best to develop. My goal is to teach each student in a way that he/she can succeed in his/her goals in this subject that I love. To achieve this. I use specialised software, colour, diagrams, short cuts, tricks, stories and non-mathematical language wherever they are appropriate. Very importantly, there is usually plenty of laughter in my maths lessons! Many students need to know where rules and formulae come from rather than just having to remember them. I am more than happy to show proofs of and connections between the `facts` they have been taught at school. This helps them see maths from a broader perspective. All of this year`s students have moved forward over a full level or up to 3 grades at GCSE either in mocks or end of year assessments"
