Approach to Teaching

"I always listen to the parents, student and possibly teachers view when determining how best to work with a student. I think its important to work with the people who know the student well so I can establish a suitable course of tuition. Upon establishing the needs and learning style of the student, I take a highly structured approach to tuition. I do this as I am a firm believer that repetition and reinforcement are just as important as learning in the first place when working towards exams. Firstly I establish what the student needs to know, often this is done by working through an exam paper. Once I have compiled a list of topics we need to cover I determine the most logical order in which to cover them, as its important that all prerequisite knowledge is covered in advance of certain topics. I attempt to work on a four lesson cycle, three lessons of new content followed by one lesson of revision as I aim to ensure the student remembers what we have been covering (otherwise I wouldn`t be doing my job properly!). Topics are covered in a timely manner so that plenty of exam practice can be achieved before the big day. I produce all my own notes and worksheets, and have access to all past papers, which I bring along so that the student can build up a bank of resources to help with their independent study. In my three years of private tuition, 97% of my students have achieved A/A* grades. Additional references (character, employment, education), as well as a full clean enhanced DBS (formerly CRB) check are available on request.
