Approach to Teaching

"I am an enthusiastic and qualified Maths tutor with several years experience of teaching young people with various support needs on a one to one basis and in small groups. I have supported learners with special needs, also gifted and talented, looked after children and students who have been excluded from school. My desire is to equip learners with the tools for success, building their knowledge of Maths regardless of their starting point and helping them to overcome any anxieties they may have towards the subject. I have worked with Fleet Tutors for 6 years after completing a local authority 1-1 pilot tutor training scheme for graduates. I have tutored in students’ homes and also at schools (Broadgreen International School, Woolton High School and Croxteth Comprehensive School). I also worked for 16 months at Chesnut Tree EBD school with young people with various intellectual, behavioural and physical challenges. I have proven myself to be energetic, dynamic and dedicated in my approach to exploring and implementing different strategies to enhance student’s performances. I have a degree in Mathematics and Computing from Liverpool Hope University, a HND in Computing, and a Postgraduate Software Technology qualification obtained from the University of Liverpool. I have a PTLSS qualification and have also begun a DTLS qualification. I have prepared learns age 16 -19 for their GCSE’s EDEXEL papers and AQA A Level Maths examinations. I have used the online OCR functional skills assessment to prepare 16-19 year olds for their functional skills levels 1 and 2 in Numeracy. I have received excellent feedback results from those whom I have tutored including their families. I have successfully worked with learners to improve their predicted grades for example from GCSE grade D to B."
