Approach to Teaching

"Hi! My name is Sam and teaching is my passion. I completed my PhD in Theoretical Physics at Durham University and I have good experience teaching maths and physics in the UK as well as China. Throughout that time I have always wanted to give back at much as I have learned, and after finishing a research position in the Mathematics Department at the University of Warwick, I would like the opportunity to help others achieve their goals. Experience: 2014 - One-to-one tuition for Warwick STEP papers (for which the student passed and is now studying at Warwick Mathematics department). Tuition for mathematics for business courses. 2011-2012 - Worked for Kaplan China. Teaching the US-Sino Pathway Program (USPP) and Advanced Placement (AP) courses for entry to universities in the US. Subjects included Calculus I & II, Chemistry and English Speaking. Set, organised, and marked multiple exams. 2011- One-to-one tuition lessons with A-Level students in Physics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics; Tutored university level subjects to a range of years (21-40 years old) including Foundation Year Mathematics (Differentiation, Trigonometry, Algebra), Partial Differential Equations, Quantum Mechanics & General Relativity. 2007-2010 Undergraduate tutoring classes in the Mathematics Department at the University of Durham, in the following subjects: Geometry, Analysis, Dynamics, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations & Actuarial Mathematics; Graded and gave feedback on exams and problem sets. Tutoring Approach: Every tutoring session I give is different as they are based on your wants and needs. I set goals that are attainable and give encouragement on how to achieve those goals. Throughout my tutoring lessons I try to convey the passion that I have for the subject, and thus try to make the sessions as enjoyable as possible. As learning is much more effective when it is fun!"

Testimonials

Samuel has provided us with these testimonials:
(University Maths) Excellent tutor, every hour was productive and well delivered. He researched the particular entrance exams I was taking so he could help me with the exam technique as well as the mathematics itself. Lots of my work was marked with helpful feedback. Extremely good value teaching, would highly recommend.
