Approach to Teaching

"Personal Descri ption: I am a 34-year-old Civil Engineer. I have been tutoring for 11 years. About me: - Outgoing person who has a modern approach to teaching and learning. - Adopt a unique method of tutoring and problem-solving. - I have furthered my teaching ability and teaching skills through formal training courses. - Approachable and easy going which my students find beneficial. Experience: I am familiar with the range of examination boards and have experience in exam technique and question style with each board. I have taught over 30 students in my time as a tutor and have had much success – my students have gained entry to top private schools as well as universities such as UCL, Manchester, Nottingham and Imperial College London. Tutoring Approach: My teaching style is modern and student focused. I am adaptable to the needs of the student. After speaking to a number of A-level candidates, many mentioned that previous tutors lacked the knowledge of structure and style to current A-level teaching. Using this feedback, I have adopted a method of distinguishing areas that the student finds difficult, focus on the core principles around this area and then work towards the topic in question and delivering this information in manageable amounts. This is usually followed by a short question and answer session which tests the students understanding of the session. I like to write short exam style questions for students to try closer to the exam period. I also supplement sessions with methods of remembering difficult topics, thus improving revision technique and boosting confidence for the student. Closer to exam time, past papers are covered thoroughly and any problems are addressed. I also arrange exam "crash courses" which provide around 4-5 hours a week which many students have found useful."
