Approach to Teaching

"I have a BSc in Mathematical Science and have been working as a mathematics tutor since I completed the mathematics degree from Teesside University in 1995. I have an excellent knowledge of Mathematics and is passionate regarding my own academic excellence to a younger generation. I have eighteen years experience of teaching mathematics and this is an evidence of valuable practical experience required to make a confident and assured educator. I worked as a Mathematics tutor from 1995, and taught students between the ages of 7 and 18. The experience has had a profound effect on me both as an individual and a teacher. I developed quickly the ability to motivate pupils by giving incentive based tasks and ensuring all pupils appropriately challenged. When I worked as a Mathematics tutor for Birmingham Development Centre, I provided extra time in order to break down their apprehension of the subject and I also gave extra time to those with learning difficulties, and over the course of the year, assessment results improve tremendously. I also monitored the learning of pupils through a plan plenary session at the end of every lesson. The modules covered during the first term of the first year of the degree course are closely linked with the current advanced mathematics syllabuses. So I am very confident that I can support pupils taking advanced mathematics to master the subject easily. I am able to quickly recognize the needs of the pupils and provide targeted support based on my own intuition and observations, as well as on the recommendations of other staff members. Commitment, enthusiasm, patience, tenacity and self-discipline are some of the characteristics and personal strength I possess that will support me in my future teaching career, enabling pupils to reach their learning objectives."
